Found a mockboard patient!
Today was a pretty good day. My morning pt didn't show up so I had to go get my daughter from school. I was able to get a sealant done and the sealant pe. That was nice. My afternoon pt was great. She is a class 3. I got the left side done today. She needed anesthetic so I was able to do my first injections on a pt. We've practiced on each other, but I had never done it in clinic before. It was a little scary, but not too bad! :-) She has also agreed to be my mockboard pt so now I don't have to worry about that anymore. I actually had her come in last spring. She is a family member of one of my other pt's. I gave her to a 2nd year student for a board pt. The quad that I'm cleaning for mockboards has never been cleaned before. She's never gone in for cleanings before. The calculus is amazing! I think that it will be a really good experience. At least I hope so! Anyway, I'm still having problems with missing calculus between the premolars. That seems to be my weak spot right now. I seem to have a problem accessing it when it's really interproximal. I'm not really sure what to do about it. This afternoon I just couldn't seem to get it off. My instructor said that I'm still building the muscles that I need to get enough lateral pressure. I hope that happens soon!

Hi, my name is Darika Murphy. I am an off campus Weber student earning my bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene. I earned my A.S. in dental hygiene from Salt Lake Community College ’07 and am working full time as a dental hygienist in the Salt Lake Valley. Congratulations on finding a mock board patient! I would love to provide you with any feedback or questions you have (hygiene school experience, board exams, after graduation work experience, etc.) Hope to hear from you!
